Client: Esso UK Ltd

The project

The 12” pipeline, which spans 97 km, was designed to replace an existing underground fuel pipeline and transport fuel to Heathrow Airport. The construction was made more complicated as the route alternated through rural and urban areas, but it offered a more environmentally friendly alternative to road transport in 2023.

The solution

To manage the complexity of the project, we put in place a special structure. Right from the start of the preparatory work, a team was deployed (access, terrains, hedgerow removal, etc.). The project management and construction was broken down and based on each type of geographical area crossed (rural, suburban and urban).

The challenge

Work began by crossing 50 km of agricultural land, ending in a dense urban area.

The project involved the use of complex, demanding installation techniques, with over 8 km of work to roads and verges.
